Earlier this year, Stephen Elop was reported in being interested in Microsoft selling off the Xbox brand.  It turns out that he’s not alone with this idea.  The Financial Times reported that Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft, is also interested in seeing future changes to the company as well.

Allen’s investment partner Paul Ghaffari says, “The search business and even Xbox, which has been a very successful product, are detracting from that. We would want them to focus on their best competencies.”

He continues, “My view is there are some parts of that operation they should probably spin out, get rid of, to focus on the enterprise and focus on the cloud.”

It seems like the idea of selling off the Xbox brand is beginning to pick up steam throughout the company.  What are your overall thoughts?
